Mr Colin Jones MBE - the man behind Alveley Village Band!
Mr Colin Jones MBE is well known for his role as the inspirational founder conductor of Alveley Village Band, serving the band between 1990 and 1998. He founded the band initially as a recorder group, then opened out the membership to the whole village and all ages. After a press release in the local newspaper, twenty-four people put their names forward to join, and a village band was started.
The band grew stronger and stronger throughout the 1990s, with all instruments taking part, and a truly remarkable period in the band's history was to develop.
While working with the band, Colin received an MBE for Services to Music in Telford after a remarkable tenure as Head of Music at the Abraham Darby School in Telford. His vision and energy saw the band grow to nearly 100 members by 1998, and all of Colin's local pupils took part.
When he retired in 1998, the band was able to look back on 8 years of pure fun, friendship and success, which saw the band take part in some vastly successful education projects with the CBSO and local special needs centres.
Under Colin's direction, the band appeared on local news programmes and in national newspaper articles. It brought - and continues to bring - the whole community together through a shared love of making music.
His legacy with the band is permanent. He continues to inspire and motivate hundreds of children and adults today.
